Venture 40 minutes by train from the CBD to discover the bustling multicultural destination of Cabramatta.

Known for its South-East Asian sights, diverse culture and exotic foods, it is a united nations of culinary offerings, boasting the largest Vietnamese community in Australia.

At the centre of this lively hub is Freedom Plaza - a thoroughfare of Vietnamese soup stands, Asian butcher shops and Thai herb emporiums. Here you can chat with friendly shop owners, slurp on a bowl of noodle soup, or get a personal remedy created by a Chinese herb specialist.

Cabramatta covers all the bases with its wide variety of community facilities including health centres, pre-schools, child care facilities, library and a senior citizens club. There is a good mix of private and public schools, plenty of parks with a playground or fitness equipment and the Cabramatta railway station which offers services to Airport, Inner West & Southern and Bankstown Line.

A year does not go past without Cabramatta celebrating its colourful Moon Lantern Festival. Each year Sydneysiders visit the town centre to experience its exciting lion dance, action-packed street parade and exotic traditional dancers. - with the diverse and dynamic entertainment ending with a spectacular fireworks finale.

People

The majority of residents in this multicultural hub are Asian, with most locals being first or second generation Vietnamese. There are families of all ages, teenagers and students, young singles and couples and a healthy dose of retirees.

Transport

+ Cabramatta railway station is a junction station on the Sydney Trains network, where the Airport, Inner West & South Line and Bankstown Line merge
+ Westbus and Veolia buses also service the area and transport residents in and around Cabramatta, from neighbouring the localities of Bonnyrigg, Mount Pritchard, Lansvale and Canley Vale
+ A taxi station can also be found on Arthur Street in front of Cabramatta Post Office with frequent services and many taxis.

+ Cabramatta West Public School provides students with opportunities to explore the values that lie behind diverse community attitudes to political issues and social concerns

Recreational Facilities

+ The Cabramatta CBD is a bustling centre for shopping, community celebrations,tourism and cultural activities.
+ The Lunar New Year is celebrated in most Asian cultures and festivities in Cabramatta feature performances, religious ceremonies, music and special foods. The main streets are closed to traffic for the whole weekend to for cultural displays, lion dancing, a flower festival, and entertainment.
+ The Moon Festival in mid-September celebrates the Autumn harvest and is another major Cabramatta event.
+ On Friday nights John Street is closed off to make way for a night market.
