After leaving school, Fred worked with Australian Pharmaceutical Industries for 9 years. Firstly, in the Accounts Department, and then in the late 1970s, he transferred to the IT room as a computer operator/programmer.
He says that the early training days in both disciplines, taught him well in accuracy and clear communication, which is what our clients expect from the modern-day Agency.
His early years were spent in property management before moving into sales. After just four years in the business he was in a position to open his own Richardson & Wrench office in Eastwood until in 1993 he opened R&W Gladesville, returning to the area in which he grew up.
Fred was the first agent to record a million dollar sale in Putney in the '90s but he has never confined his efforts to the premium end of the market. He is as content to offer his services to the sale of a small first home buyer unit as a multi-million dollar home.
Fred's success can be attributed to his thorough knowledge of the local market and the benefits of having experienced all the highs and lows of the fluctuating real estate market. It's an easy task to sell during boom times but when the market turns, the knowledge, experience and negotiation skills of the agent become paramount.
His personal auction success rate is 89 per cent, an outstanding achievement which reflects his ability to tailor an effective marketing campaign and establish a rapport with potential buyers. Fred's in-depth knowledge and honesty means his advice is frequently sought by vendors, developers and valuers.
He recently sold a home for $3.788 million in Tennyson Point (Gladesville) for $500k over reserve, which received a lot of attention from local and national media, and his success continues with a suburb record sale of $3.25 million for a house in Ryde.
Fred lost sight in his right eye after a childhood accident, but feels blessed that he is still able to have a career in an industry that affords him great satisfaction from helping people.
For vendors, Fred's uncompromising commitment to giving an honest appraisal of a home's value plays a major part in his on-going success. He will not over-state the value of a home to win a listing or take a property to auction unless absolutely confident that it will sell.
While the internet has opened up valuable new avenues for reaching more potential buyers, Fred remains committed to selling real estate in a time honoured tradition - face to face, through talking, reaching out to his network and negotiating. Fred is an active member of his local community and a member of the Gladesville Chamber of Commerce. With three children who were educated locally he has also been a supporter of school fundraising efforts over many years.
